BRI/OBOR पर एक लघु टिप्पणी लिखें|
- The South China Sea disputes involve both island and maritime claims among several sovereign states within the region, namely Brunei, the People’s Republic of China (PRC), Republic of China (Taiwan), Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Vietnam. An estimated US$5 trillion worth of global trade passes through the South China Sea and many non-claimant states want the South China Sea to remain international waters.
Spratly Islands and Paracel Islands are the major island of dispute. China’s historical claim using nine dashed line covers the whole of South China Sea that overlaps with EEZ of other claimants. China, recently, refused to accept the verdict of the tribunal set under UNCLOS.
- One belt one road (OBOR), also known as the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) is a project initiated by the Chinese President Xi Jinping. Its objective is to build trade routes (roads, railways, oil pipelines, power grids, ports etc.) between China and other countries.
The OBOR initiative has been bifurcated into two parts:
- The ‘belt’ refers to the ‘Silk Road Economic Belt‘which is land based. It will connect China with Central Asia, Eastern and Western Europe.
- The ‘road’ refers to the ‘21st Century Maritime Silk Road’ which is sea based. It will connect China to South-East Asia, Africa and Central Asia.
CPEC is the major component of the project that passes through the PoK. China has planned around $1 trillion of investment in various infrastructure projects by providing loans to the countries involved at a low cost.
