Oracle IAS’s take on the Ethics Paper:

  • Though the paper is copy-paste UPSC GS paper 4, the level of questions asked in the exam is much easier.
  • No analytical type question is being asked. For instance:
    • What is happiness according to you?
    • No quotes based questions.
  • The question paper is straight forward with no subjectivity.
    • Elucidate the kinds of values
    • Discuss the formation of attitude.

Expert advice:

There are two kinds of aspirants. Strategy for the two will be different:

Aspirant 1 : Those who have been preparing seriously for UPSC:

    • They will find the paper easier and will be able to tackle the whole paper comfortably, if they have memorised the concepts.

Suggestion for Aspirant 1: Start with Ethics and try to complete this section within 1 hour 15 min so that you get maximum time for the General Aptitude section (120 marks).

Aspirant 2 : Those who are studying Ethics for the first time:

Suggestion for Aspirant 2:

  • Definition of concepts should be crisp and precise so that you don’t have to make it over there. Example : what is work culture?
  • Since we have paucity of time, focus should be on syllabus coverage and not deep philosophical analysis of topics.
  • Case studies should be practiced, and a template should be ready beforehand.
